Abstract

Pseudoaneurysms of the arteries of the hand are infrequent; few reports of cases in adult patients, secondary to closed or open trauma, have been found in the literature. The diagnosis is confirmed by Doppler ultrasound and other complementary studies. If it is left untreated, the complications includethrombosis, distal digital artery embolism, nerve injury, or necrosis. Surgery is the recommended treatment and consists of resection of the pseudoaneurysm and simple ligation, arteriorraphy, or vascular reconstruction with graft. The objective of this report is to describe a case of hypothenar pseudoaneurysm due to penetrating injury in a pediatric patient, and, due to the rarity of this condition, to conduct a non-systematic review of the current literature.
