Abstract

Introduction:  Is common practice in  our center to practice clinicals and radiologicals controls in the first year  post surgery of Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS), usually in the immediate post surgery, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months. Is know the negative impact of these radiations in the human body and there are not clear clinicals guides about what would be the optimal scheme radiological monitoring. Materials and methods: Fifty five operated patients were retrospectively evaluated. With pedicle screws without symptoms or loss of clinical correction. Analyzed radiologicals findings in the first year post surgery were evaluated the intercurrences this group show up and there impact in the therapeutic behaviour. Results: mean age: 15,1; mean Risser: 3,7 (0-5); percentage of instrumented pedicles: 81,7%; mean correction in the principal curve: 74%; mean x-rays was 3,7 +/- 0.93 (each x -ray was front and side face). None patients had modification of the clinical behaviour base on the radiotogical findings. Conclusion: in the patients operated of AIS with pedicles screws that were not simptomatics of radiculopathy, persistent pain or loose of clinical correction the x – rays controls could be reduced to 3 in the first year of post surgery
